Fourth of July!

This might have been the best weather I’ve had in Seattle for the 4th of July. The morning was chilly and cloudy, but then the clouds cleared and it warmed right up and it was just about perfect. Justin and I hosted a small family barbecue with his parents and brother on the roof, and then because there were no official fireworks this year, we went down stairs and watched the new Pixar movie, Luca.

After taking the Keyes padres to the ferry, I came home, finished cleaning up the kitchen, and thenwent back up on the roof to watch all the unofficial fireworks being shot off across the neighbourhood and around the lake—and they were pretty good!

And now to bed, looking forward to another day off before going back to work, and hoping that next year we’ll be able to have a proper fireworks show again.

This part of the garden is looking particularly good this time of year. A riot of high summer blossoms, some past their peak, some at their prime, and some still coming into their own. And look! There in the back, another clematis bloom on a vine that has never revoked for me before.
