Towers, churches, and polenta dolce in Bergamo’s Citta Alta

I’m in Italy this weekend with my twin sister, Heather, and her husband and in-laws. The in-laws are living in Milan as mission presidents, but they took a break from presidential duties to show us around. We started out this morning with a stop in Bergamo, where we spent an hour or so exploring the […]

When you get to Italy

The first thing you do is make home made bruschetta.  Yummm.

San Francisco

You know that feeling when you spend a beautiful weekend in a place with your boyfriend and your best friend, and then get sucked into a week of meetings and lose the will to blog?  Sigh. So I’m just going to put a pin in San Francisco and come back to it later.

Someplace arctic

Ten hour flight to San Francisco on an ancient United Airlines plane. “It’s being retired next week,” the flight attendant cheerily announced.  No personalized entertainment screens. No power station at the seats.  And halfway through they replaced the action movies with cat videos. I kid you not. So I got a ton of work done, […]

Work and waffles in Brussels

I’m in Brussels for a quick work trip. Took the Eurostar over this afternoon and of course the first thing I did upon arriving was get a gauffre in the gare. Because that’s what you do.  Then work work work till late, and then (drumroll) a walk down into centre ville for a pita . […]

Who needs a place to stay in Seattle?

It’s official:  Seattle’s hottest AirBnB property has just gone live and is open for business.  I mean, if I’m not going to stay there, why shouldn’t you?  You just have to promise you’ll let me back in when I move back from London. Here’s the listing.  It’s perfect for weekend get-aways, longer-term corporate arrangements, and […]

The shamrock goes to London

I probably have the world’s best-traveled shamrock plant. In the 38+ years of its life (its older than I am!), this plant has lived in Utah, Texas, Iowa, Arizona, Oregon, New York, Virginia, and Washington–and has traveled through most of the states in between. This weekend it ventured into international territory. I couldn’t move it […]

Smokey skies for take-off

After a week of glorious clear weather in Seattle, today dawned smokey and grim. Made saying goodbye a little bit easier.

Sunsets and sushi in Seattle

Impromptu midweek date nights are the best. Especially when you know that in three more days you’ll be back on opposite sides of the Atlantic. We bagged the usual work-night routine (which now that one of us lives in London is neither usual nor routine) in favor of a stroll through the Olypic Sculpture Park […]

Tagliatelle in Munich

Two days in Munich and all I saw was the office and the Marriott. I ordered room service to avoid losing time in the restaurant–the hope was to get out for a run through the city center.  Sadly, the pasta was not delicious and I still ended up working till 1am.
