Glacier Day 3: Highline Trail & Macdonald Lodge

Boy today was cold! We got to the trailhead before dawn again to make door were got a parking spot, and then waited for the sun to come up. This time we parked at the top of Logan Pass, which is the highest point of the Going to the Sun Road. From there the Highline Trail runs north along the mountain ridge with incredible vistas. Normally you’d do a 12 mile one way trip and take a shuttle back to the trailhead. But yesterday a guy got attacked by a bear, so the last half of the trail was closed. Yikes. That meant a shorter out-and-back situation for us today (8 miles total). Which all things considered I was okay with. I was a little sore from the long hikes yesterday, and it was very cold and windy on the ridge. I layered on all the clothes and was fine, but it would have been a lot more fun with better weather. But good news: No bear attacks! And we did see a mountain goat, and another group of bighorn sheep. So now we’ve seen all the major wildlife for the park.

After finishing the Highline, we drove to the west side of the park and had lunch at the McDonald Lodge, and walked around the lake shore for a while. And then went the rest of the way into town, checked into our Airbnb, and then took a two hour nap—which felt amazing.
