Flower emergency

So. Those flowers I got last weekend so that they would be in full bloom by the time Justin got here for Christmas? Well, by Saturday they were looking glorious.

But by Sunday morning… Wilting! DISASTER!!

It wasn’t due to a lack of water, so I hypothesised that the stems weren’t pulling water, and that the flowers could be revived if I cut off a few inches. But what if I was wrong? The flower market is only on Sunday mornings, so my window for getting replacements was fast closing.

I decided to be safe instead of sorry –because one can’t do Christmas without lilies! So off to the market…

…and disaster averted.

And guess what? My hypothesis was totally right. A good chop off the stems and overnight in fresh water and the other lilies were back in form. Now I have not one but two giant bouquets in the flat.

Merry merry!
