Nighttime in Brussels

Back in Brussels for a night. Meetings start in the morning and then I’m on the train back to London — so I took tonight for a lovely walk around the old town center.

The amazing Grand Place, the cathedral where I went contacting–jet lagged–on the first day of my mission, the little pita shop that used to give me free frites and still has my favourite “pitta mais a la sauce samourai”, the first royal palace I ever visited in Europe (which, surprisingly, stands up very well against most that I’ve seen since).

I do love this place.

    Jason,

I finally got to your blog from Belgium. You are holding up what I suppose is a Belgian waffle. What makes them such a subject of salivatory conversation? Are they better than Bisquick waffles?

    1. Ha, totally different from Bisquick! These are made with a chewy, buttery raised dough that has pearl-sized sugar crystals mixed in that caramelize during the cooking to add crunch and sweetness.
