Oktoberfest!

This time with better outfit. Because after two trips last year looking like a walking tourist cliche around all the incredibly good-looking and well-dressed Bavarians, I vowed never again. So when found I’d be going again this year, I consulted with a local to get the right look.

Yes, they’re real leather. No, there is no way to take a selfie in the mirror without looking stilted or inappropriate. Yes, I still covet the gorgeous wool sweaters, vests, and jackets the men were wearing but my gosh the good ones are expensive (though if forced to go a fourth time I will definitely cave).

Of course it was absolutely pouring rain, so by the time we got to our tent those of us with umbrella were soaked from the waist down and the poor fools without umbrellas gave up.

But the party was warm and dry and fun inside.

And since I managed to snag a spot on the outside end of the bench, it was easy to slip away after dinner when the evening reached that inevitable turning point when it’s more fun for those who are drunk than those who aren’t.

By then the rain had stopped but the crowds outside the tents were still thin, and it was a quick (but chilly!) walk back to the hotel and bed.
